I just got back from three-night long hospital stay. I had an infection (mastitis) in one of my boobs from breastfeeding that turned into an abscess and had to be surgically drained. I can't believe that all my time and effort trying to give Emma breast milk landed me in the hospital and away from her for three nights. Also, they tried to fight the infection with antibiotics before it got really bad and the meds. ended up making Emma sick and forced us to feed her formula anyway. Ugh. Not quite what I intended. I guess when they say breast milk is best for the baby, they don't factor in certain situations. Oh, well. I'm home now and hopefully on the mend. And at least I get to be with the baby 24/7 now, sore boob and all. Wish us luck.
p.s. Please don't think I'm not counting my blessings. There are much worse breast issues I could be dealing with--just ask my Aunt Debbie.

That sounds rough! Sorry Amy- hope you're doing better now! (and Emma too!)
Oh no, poor boob! I've heard that breastfeeding-related problems are extremely common and even in the extremely small circle of moms I know, most of the women have had issues at one point or another. You are totally normal! Even though I am not a mom, I am obsessed with this blog: www.amalah.com. You might want to check out her archives where she goes into all sorts of boobie details. I think you'll like her sense of humor too =)
Also, Emma is freakin' gorgeous! Where did all that hair come from?
Emma was good. We just had to take care of Mommy. Amy's tough and got over a bump in the road. I know whatever we end up doing is going to work for us and be great.
