Heartbeats, kicks, and a great dad
Yesterday was my 24-week doctor's appointment. All is well the babe and me. My blood pressure continues to be low and the baby's heartbeat is strong. One of the midwives told me that the baby (well, my uterus—
sorry if that's too much information) is three finger widths above my belly button now. No wonder my belly's sticking out so far! I have another visit in four weeks. Then I start going biweekly. I can't believe I'm almost in my third trimester! I know there's still a lot of time, but it feels like things are happening so fast now. I mean, my mom had me at 34 weeks...that's just 10 weeks away for me! I hope I don't go into labor that early, of course, but you never know. I'm definitely starting to go into panic/nesting mode. I can't stop buying baby stuff. And I'm kind of flipping out because the nursery is not finished and we don't have some of the essentials (like diapers, an infant car seat, or a place for the baby to sleep). One step at a time; I know.
Even though I'm in a bit of a panic, I'm still really enjoy this whole experience. It's truly amazing; better than I could ever imagine. I'm so lucky. My new favorite hobby is to lie in bed and watch my belly dance around. Yes, I can actaully see the kicks. I mean, this kid can really shake things up in there! And the kicks (and thumps and flip-flops) are only supposed to get stronger for the next 8-10 weeks or so until she runs out of room. Hard to imagine since some of her movements already take my breath away.
Andrew's really helping me enjoy things too. I've never seen him so excited before. This week he's been in New York for work and in his free time has been hitting up FAO Schwartz and Toys 'R' Us and picked up some presents for the baby (like a sheep rattle and letter magnets for the fridge). He also made sure to leave me with a well-stocked fridge, saying he had to make sure "his girls" had enough to eat. He's going to be a great dad.
Oh, my. We're having a baby.
