Manic Monday

In typical new parent fashion, I was running late for the train yesterday morning. And, well, I missed it. No big deal since there's another train 20 minutes later at the next closest station (about a 15 minute drive).

Now you all know me. I like to follow the rules and I'm a total granny driver. I figure the speed limits are in place for a reason -- our safety -- and I'm usually pretty good at following them. Lately, however, I'm almost always behind schedule and in a hurry. So for the first time in my life, I got pulled over for speeding (40 in a 25 -- not that bad). Apparently I was polite and apologetic enough for the cop to let me off the hook with just a verbal warning. Still, I felt terrible. (Yes, I cried.) I also missed the second train due to being pulled over and had to turn around and go back to the first station and try to catch the third option. Now I'm pretty frustrated.

Yesterday was also my work holiday party, so I was lugging a few extra bags. One was filled with some little breads in festive ceramic pans to give to my coworkers as holiday gifts. Stupid me put them in a Macy's shopping bag to carry. And low and behold, the bag tore open in the parking lot just before getting on the train. OK. Things are still fine. Nothing broke. I still managed to get on the train. (Third time's the charm.) The breads were stacked in shoe boxes, so I just carried those instead.

When I was finally seated on the train...an hour late for work, shoe boxes in tow...I tried to rearrange all my gear to make it more manageable. And then I remembered...when I'd reached for my registration for the cop, I knocked over my work bag and my pump parts fell out. I thought to myself: "Oh, I'd better remember to put those back in my bag or today is going to be torture." Well, guess what? I forgot. Now I'm on the train, late for work, carrying two shoe boxes full of bread, knowing that my boobs are going to explode by the end of the day. Great.

I don't have much else to say about yesterday. It was also the first time I didn't see Emma all day. She was sleeping when I left and had gone to bed when I got home. I know that's bound to happen once in a while but it was definitely a bummer. *Sigh.* I'm glad that yesterday is over, was glad to wake up this morning knowing it was a new day, and even more glad that I didn't miss any trains, get pulled over, rip any bags, or forget my pump parts today.
